Class Information

Preschool Classes

Our Pre School dance classes are a great introduction to dance for little dancers. Students are introduced to the basic dance steps such as skipping, walking and running on tiptoes, marching, and much more in a fun and relaxed environment. These skills will help develop technique used in most dance styles as well as general coordination and motor skills. Teachers use props such as wands, scarves, flags and musical instruments to help keep students engaged. Musicality is also an important aspect of these classes. The children will learn to work with other children and follow instructions as well as improve listening skills and concentration. The children will be introduced to concepts such as taking turns, moving in circles, moving on a diagonal and following a leader. They will develop a better sense of spacial awareness and working within a group. Pre School students have to opportunity to perform in our annual End of Year Recital.

Recommended Age:

3 - 5 years

  • Children in our Pre School classes should be confident enough to be left in class without a parent in the room.
  • Parents are very welcome to stay in the classroom during the first one or two lessons. Spectators in the classroom can however cause the children to become distracted. Better learning and progression will occur when no one is watching.

Recommended Uniform:

  • Girls: PW Dance Pink Chloe Dress or similar
  • Boys: Plain T-Shirt or Singlet and Navy or Black Shorts
  • Ballet shoes
  • Ankle socks can be worn during warmer weather rather than tights
  • Ballet tights and plain pink leather or canvas ballet shoes for girls will be required for students who wish to partake in our End of Year Recital. Boys will require white ballet shoes.

Progression:

From Pre School, the children can progress to Pre Syllabus Ballet or Beginner Jazz. This normally happens once the child turns 5 years old, however, we recommend those who turn 5 after August, remain with their current class until the end of the year and progress to the next class in the new year.
