Classes
Jazz Major JDNZ
Prerequisite:
Students with previous dance experience:
- Jazz Dance New Zealand (JDNZ) Pre Major Jazz or equivalent
- Students with equivalent experience must meet the age requirements - these students may need to trial a few different levels to find the best class
- Students wishing to sit the Major exam must attend at least one other class (ballet or jazz) per week.
Students with little or no jazz experience:
- The recommended age for students with little or no jazz experience is 16 years +
- The students ability and other classes they will be attending per week will be taken into account
- New students may need to trial a few different levels to find the best class
- Students wishing to sit the Major exam must attend at least one other class (ballet or jazz) per week.
- Exceptions are at the discretion of the school/teacher and will depend on previous dance experience, exams passed, ability and age. Please contact the office for further information.
Uniform Requirements:
- Black "Bronwyn" style leotard
- Black "V" front jazz shorts
- Non-Shimmer tan tights
- Available from PW Dance and Farmers
- Farmers brand are preferred - Columbine 50 or 70 denier Opaque: Mocca
- Tan leather jazz shoes
- Black leather jazz shoes - can be worn to classes are are advised to still own
- Tan coloured knee pads
- Black leggings (optional for winter months)
- Male students - teacher will advise
Major jazz: is our 2nd "senior" level jazz class. Students learn more advanced and complicated routines . Students are expected to show different modern dance styles also. Exercises have a focus on technique, style, memory and performance.
Students in Major: have the opportunity to enter a JDNZ Exam, NZAMD Medal Test and/or to perform in our annual End of Year Recital.
Progression: Major Jazz progresses on to Intermediate Jazz.
